Summary

Simon Velasquez received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from The University of Kansas (KU) in 2017 and is now pursuing a doctorate degree under the guidance of Dr. Alan M. Allgeier. Together they are tackling key challenges faced by the pharmaceutical industry, emphasizing those that pertain to non-continuous processes and involve hazardous and toxic reagents.  To do so, Simon is utilizing innovative technology in reaction engineering and separations that operate at high efficiency meanwhile maintaining standards of quality control and Safety. Additionally, Simon is helping to implement a strong safety culture in the department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at KU by championing the efforts in his laboratory. Safety is of great importance to Simon since he is looking to implement innovative pharmaceutical processes that utilize hydrogenation reactions with minimum risk and high efficiency.

Outside of research, Simon is an ambassador for the Graduate Engineering Association where he is a member of the recruitment committee. The committee is tasked to effectively communicate with potential graduate students in national and international environments as well as developing the tools and compiling the information needed to successfully promote each department at the School of Engineering.
